Servicing –

Since you will be taking a bike or a car. It is very necessary to make sure your car/bike is well serviced and maintained. Usually, you should make sure that the engine is serviced and all the engine oil, brake oil, and essentials are replaced and ready to go. If your tires are old, you might wanna get them replaced. Because there is nothing worse than having the tire punctured in the middle of nowhere.
There are small things which you should also keep that in mind. Like making sure the battery is good, you have extra throttle and clutch cable. Keeping a tool kit handy is always a good idea.

Packing –

It is another essential part of being a road tip guy/girl. You would want to pack all the essential because you never know where you might be staying. Is you are doing a solo trip, it is a good idea to keep some safety gadgets. Additionally poncho, an umbrella or raincoat can also come in handy if you are traveling on a bike.
Make sure you pack light and only taking the necessary item. Overpacking is always a bad idea. You are carrying this much load and most of the time you won’t be able to utilize it.

Budget –

Budgeting is very important. You need to make a budget so that you can predict how much money you will be needing. Doing this can also help you save and have a lot of enjoyment.

Trying doing research about the place that you are planning to visit.

1. Finding the best and economical hotels
2. Places to eat where you won’t have to pay much
3. How much the activities would cost. (Paragliding etc)
4. Homestay is always cheap and you get a home cooked meal, find homestays

Doing research on how much fuel you will be needing can help with the total cost. Camping is also a good idea, it can help you save a lot of money. It is not ideal when you are planning your trip during the rainy season

Planning –

The itinerary is a good idea when planning a trip. Laying out the whole plan can keep you on schedule and save time.
Imagine you are leaving early in the morning and you had planned to reach the destination by 5 PM, you will more likely to avoid unnecessary stops and reach the destination on time.

Things to Avoid-

Always prebook where you are going to stay. If it is a holiday season, finding hotels can get difficult and you more pay more than usual.
Don’t wander off to a unknown track or road when you don’t have GPS. Most of the times this isn’t a good idea. Especially when you are traveling alone. Don’t wait for fuel to hit the last marker when it comes to filling. Fill your tank whenever you get the chance (Depending on the distance) You never know when is the next petrol is.
